Wednesday, February 24th

Just a reminder that report cards will be sent home next week (Tuesday, the 2nd), and parent-teacher interviews will be held the evening of March 4th (Thursday), and all day Friday. If you are interested in a certain time, please let me know before the end of the week. Your interview time will be sent home this Friday.

Even though there was a spelling quiz on Monday, we will go ahead with our spelling quiz this Friday. We are working on -ui words!

In math this week, we are working on addition/subtraction of tens (with double digit numbers....12 + 10, 12+80, 57-30 etc...) Please continue practicing math facts (addition/subtraction up to 20) at home, since many students still need a lot of practice with their mental math. I am hoping to make up a little math envelope to send home by the end of next week to practice math facts at home.

Scholastic book catalogues for March were sent home yesterday. If interested, please send in your order by next Friday, March 5th.

This Friday, the school will be having a mini-Olympics celebration, where each class will be representing a certain country. Our class has been assigned to Sweden. We will be making a flag, and having "opening ceremonies" in the gym, so if possible, your child is asked to wear blue and/or yellow to school on Friday.

I think that's all for now.

If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to request a certain interview time, please e-mail me at lsmacleod@edu.pe.ca

Thanks!

Lisa

Thursday, February 18th!

Thank-you for all of the nice surprises this week...from flowers, to fortune cookies for the class! Everyone has been working together to make this busy week a great one for the staff and students. The Chinese food was a hit!

Tomorrow, we will be celebrating the 100th day of school. Your child is more than welcome to come to school dressed how he/she thinks they will look when they are 100 years old. Students are also invited to bring a collection of 100 items, or anything related to the number 100 to school for a show and tell tomorrow.

Due to the short school week, tomorrow's spelling quiz will take place on Monday.

We are now working our the good copies of our stories. This process has taken us quite a bit longer than expected. I'm hoping to have stories completed by the end of next week!

This week, we have also started a theme on Space with our French Language Arts program. This should be a fun one, with a lot of art, reading, and writing activities!

A quick reminder that the 2nd Progress Reports will be sent home on Tuesday, March 2nd, and Parent-teacher interviews will be held on Thursday evening and all day Friday, March 4th and 5th. If you have a preferred day/time, please write me a quick note in your child's agenda by Wednesday, Feb 24th. Thanks! See you soon!

Just a reminder that we will be going ahead with Chinese Food for lunch as planned. If your child is interested and you have not sent in your $3.00, please send the money tomorrow morning. I will be posting more information on the blog regarding the next couple of weeks. Please check in again tomorrow as February is a very busy month. Thanks!

Monday, February 8th

We have a busy week ahead of us! On Friday, we will be celebrating the beginning of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, National Flag Day (with an assembly in the gym), and Valentine's Day. This week, we have also begun our new math unit "Adding and Subtracting up to 100". This unit will include adding by 10, addition/subtraction of double-digit numbers, subtracting by 10, and solving word problems using strategies learned in class. In science, we are talking about water in its three forms (liquid, solid, and gas).

Next week, we will be celebrating the 100th day of school (on Wednesday) and the Chinese New Year. For the 100th day of school, your child is more than welcome to come to school dressed how he/she thinks they will look when they turn 100 years old! On Thurday, February 18th, we will be ordering Chinese Food for Grades 1 and 2 at a cost of 3$/student. A letter will be sent home this week with more information.

I have five weeks left with the class until my maternity leave begins (on March Break). I still do not know who will be my replacement. Over the next few weeks, we will be doing our best here at school to make this an easy transition for everyone involved! If anyone is interested in having an early parent-teacher interview after school, please write me a quick note and we can set up a time to meet at your convenience.

Thanks!

Monday, February 1st!

We have a very busy few weeks ahead of us...starting next week with the beginning of the Olympics, our Valentine's Day celebation, our Chinese New Year celebration (more details to come), and the 100th Day of School! We will be very busy, but have a lot of work to do before we can celebrate.

We are continuing to work on cursive writing, our science experiments, writing our own stories (we are almost finished our revisions and are soon ready to start writing our good copies), and we will be finishing up measurements in Math this week.

There will be a spelling quiz on Friday (eu/eur). Scholastic Book orders are also due this Friday. Captain Sub orders were due tomorrow, but because of the change in PD days, we will be accepting orders early Wednesday morning as well.

In computer class today, we played a few math and alphabet games at the link below. It was a hit!

That's all for now.

Have a great day!
