This evening the students took home some new reading books and a record sheet . Some students informed me that they had a duo-tang at home with sheet to record their reading. The books, duo-tang and agenda should be going back and forth from home to school daily. They have been given a black case to protect their books from other items in their school bag.
The list of spelling words this week is Liste 20.We will be having our word test on Thursday.
I hope Easter is wonderful to all.

Hi, My name is Edith Hogan. As of March 22nd I became your son or daughters teacher filling in for Mrs. MacLeod. Mrs. MacLeod is now the proud mom of a baby boy Pacey, born on March 17.

The students have had a very good start to the year and we hope to continue this process to the end.

To maintain and improve reading and comprehension skills, the students will be taking home reading books daily and recording what they read. The books will be the same for the week to improve their fluency. They should always be in their school bags as they also read them in class.

In Language Arts, we are enjoying a space unit that combines science as well. This will be completed at Easter.

Our math program is centered around determining the consistency of numbers (28=2 tens and 8 ones), also addition with carrying and subtraction with borrowing. This is their biggest challenge in math for Grade 2. Practicing their addition and subtraction facts from 1-20 will help assure their success.

Agenda will be going home nightly(except week-ends). Your attention and signature on these will emphasize that homework is important. The blog will be updated each Monday.

Tuesday, March 9th

First of all, I would like to welcome Mme Edith Hogan to our class! We are so happy that she will be working with us for the rest of the year! Also, a big thank-you to everyone for re-arranging your schedules to meet for parent-teacher interviews. If we did not get a chance to meet over the past few weeks, or yesterday, there is a note in your child's agenda to arrange a time later this week. There is also a very important information sheet (green) regarding our visit to the Credit Union Place this Friday. Please fill out the form and send it back to school asap. I am also still looking for as many parents as possible who would like to join us for skating, swimming, and/or bowling. Instead of being responsible for a certain group of children....teachers and parents will have a certain area to supervise, and will be responsible for any kids in that particular area (regardless of class/grade). Thank-you for your help! We have a busy week ahead of us, with a lot of work to wrap-up and with French week activities! I will be in touch later this week!

Parent-teacher interviews

Last week's parent-teacher interviews have been rescheduled for tomorrow, Monday, March 8th. Interviews scheduled last Thursday evening have been moved to Monday evening (same time), but I also have quite a few openings during the day. If you are interested in meeting Monday during the day, please e-mail me with a preferred time and I will get back to you asap. I will also be making phone calls this afternoon to reschedule our meeting times. Talk to you soon!

Tuesday, March 2nd

The countdown is on...I can't believe that next week will be my last with this class! I am still waiting to hear about a replacement for me, and am hoping that we will all find out sooner than later.

- Report cards were sent home today.
- Interviews are this Thursday afternoon/evening and Friday (all day). If your time does not suit your schedule (or if you did not yet receive your time...it was sent home last week), please write me a quick note.
- There is a book fair upstairs in the library. We will be visiting the book fair tomorrow...students may bring money to spend at the book fair.
- Scholastic Book orders are due Friday
- Corrected spelling quizzes from last week will be sent home tomorrow. There will be no spelling quiz this week. We will have our quiz in the middle of next week. We are studying the words ending in -er and -ier. We are also working on nouns (nom commun) and verbs (les verbes).
- We are working VERY hard to finish our stories for parent-teacher interviews.
- We are continuing this week with our Space theme, and will begin our Science unit on magnets tomorrow.
- Next week, we will be celebrating French Week
- Our school will be visiting the Credit Union Place on Friday, March 12th in the afternoon. More information to come soon! There will be a cost of approximately 2$ per student, and each child will be able to participate in 2 activities (swimming, bowling, or skating). I will be looking for parent volunteers to come with us if you are available!

That's the basics for today... I will send more detailed information home shortly!

Thanks,

Lisa
